An isometric exercise is a type of exercise that makes a muscle work for a long time without moving the angle of the joint. isometric is a combination of the Greek words isos and metria, which means that in these exercises the length of the muscle and the angle of the joint don't change.
The contraction strength may, however, be different. This is different from "isotonic contractions," which don't change how strong the contractions are, but how long the muscles are and how far apart they are from each other.
The "plank" is a type of isometric hold that can really work the body's core musculature when you hold it for a long time. There are other ways to do it, like by balancing on your forearms.
It's called the "side plank," and it's a variation that helps you work your obliques.
Presses, pulls, and holdings are three of the main types of isometric exercise, and they all work the same way.
They may be used in a strength training plan to help the body apply power from a still position or, in the case of isometric holds, to help the body stay in a position for a long time.
As an action, isometric presses are also very important to the body's ability to prepare itself to do power moves right away. So-called isometric preload is what you do when you want to get ready.
